Trouble Shooting

Eltee Pulsitron had two different types of machines HYDRAULIC and DC SERVO. There were two types of DC Servo: the EP300CP/TRM21 and the CNC30/TRM41. All other types were Hydraulic servo machines.

If trouble shooting techniques fail or if you have ANY questions, please call or fax Freedom Technologies at the following numbers: 973-772-7371 or 973-772-9633 (fax).

HYDRAULIC

Does machine turn on?

Dielectric Unit does not run/ Pump motor runs, no oil out

No vertical movement of ram (electrode)

Machine does not cut

Machine does not cut , but start cut light is on.

Machine cuts ,but very inefficiently, voltage on front panel Vm can't "squeeze" below 50vdc

No Pulsator(cycle Timer)

No Vibrator action

Machine arcs on contact when electrode touches work piece

Does machine turn on?

Is 3 phase ac power available Line to Line? Is side panel switch turned on? Any fans running? Any lights lit?

Check Main Fuses, Check Main Buss Fuses.

Dielectric Unit does not run/Pump motor runs, no oil out

Check circuit breaker on front panel of dielectric unit. Is 3 phase power available to circuit breaker? Make sure cable from side panel is in. Reset circuit breaker. Is Pump shaft turning in direction of arrow marked on housing?

Pump may need to be primed. Reprime, open prime plug on pump housing make sure prime plug seals. Check oil level. Check pump foot, make sure that it is clear.

No vertical movement of ram (electrode)

Does ram move Up or Down manually (jog)? Does machine move up, buy only comes down a short distance. Check that depth mic on left side of head is not touching. Make sure ram is not at end of travel.

Machine does not move up or down, check hydraulic circuit breaker. Open front door of cabinet, bottom panel. If after circuit breaker is reset, then trips again, call or fax us. If it stays up, check under machine tool if pump is running, is pressure registering? Check oil level.

If pressure is alright, make sure Machine Control Module is plugged into cabinet. Check fuses behind Machine Control Module, remove back panel plate behind Module Enclosure to locate fuses. Check fuses with continuity meter.

Machine does not cut

When start cut switch is depressed does the green light on the switch stay on after you release the button? If not check float switch, is it submerged? To check float shake up and down and briefly keep inverted to check if Start Cut stays on. If it still does not stay on, check the Program Board. Pull out so that it disconnects then reset. Use flashlight to make sure it plugs correctly into the mother board.

Machine does not cut, but start cut light is on.

Is there a Voltage on the front panel meter? For machines that do not have a voltmeter on the front panel (only a large AMP meter) Use a separate dc voltmeter to measure across the electrode to table. Normal reading is 100vdc. If no voltage, make sure there is a current selected in the 3 amps or more. If still no voltage (or low voltage) change current selection to all switches in the first and second row. If still low or no voltage change timer to 25 microseconds ON TIME and 25 microseconds OFF TIME.

Machine cuts ,but very inefficiently, voltage on front panel Vm can't "squeeze" below 50vdc

Check static drift of machine servo valve, Please call or fax Freedom Technologies for procedure. Normal drift is one revolution of dial Indicator, in 10 to 12 seconds. If drift is alright, check Power selection by going to a different row, and selecting a different switch. Change Timer Unit ON and OFF time to equal numbers. (i.e. 40usec ON & 40usec OFF time.

Some units were equipped with anti-arc and had an external sensitivity adjustment. Turn control ccw, check efficiency. Check retract control adjacent to the sensitivity control, turn control fully ccw. If no difference check pulsator switch on cycle timer and vibration make sure that both are turned off.

No Pulsator (Cycle Timer)

Relay on GCD board plugged in. Check the switch located on the front Panel for turning Pulsator (cycle Timer ) on. Check Fuse on GCD board with continuity meter.

Top

No Vibrator action

Check switch on Vibrator control, turn control clockwise for more effect when cutting (eroding). Shut system off, remove servo Preamp bd check contacts for dirt or corrosion. Clean with lint free paper and contact cleaner. Never use a eraser it will remove the gold plating. Reinsert board carefully, not bending over any components. Turn system back on.

Machine arcs on contact when electrode touches work piece

Shut off all current switches and select one switch at a time. If arcing occurs on one row only, try to determine if it is the whole row or one power selection switch. Call or fax Freedom Technologies for test procedure. If ok check that Timer ON time is not high, reinsert your On and OFF Times. Recheck. NOTE: Once an ARC occurs it must be removed from electrode and work piece.
